  STOP INFECTION BEFORE IT STARTS Infection is   a condition that occurs when harmful microorganisms enter the body, multiply, and begin to interfere with normal body functions. These microorganisms often called pathogens include bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. At its core, infection is not just the presence of germs, but their growth and activity in the body, which can lead to damage of tissues and illness. a. Bacterial infections Caused by bacteria (single-celled organisms).
